Founded in 2018 as a grassroots response to the growing waste crisis along our coasts, we began by organizing coastal cleanups and creating local infrastructure for recycling and responsible waste reduction practices in Piñones, Loíza—a region of deep ecological and cultural significance.
Today, our mission continues addressing an urgent need:
- The average person in Puerto Rico produces 5.5 pounds of waste per day.
- Only 12–14% of that waste is diverted from landfills.
- Many communities still lack the infrastructure and education needed for proper waste management.
At LimPiaR, we believe that education, access, and collaboration are key to long-term change. That’s why we:
- Host monthly coastal cleanups and recycling pop-ups.
- Lead hands-on environmental education in businesses, schools and communities.
- Train grassroots Eco-Leaders to drive sustainable action locally.
We envision a Puerto Rico where everyone has the tools and knowledge to reduce waste and protect the natural beauty that surrounds us. We are all being called to care for the beauty and quality of the natural resources that we love and depend on.
